Our partner - Protegrity is data-protection industry leader with vault-less tokenization solution.
Version 8.1, the latest version of the Protegrity Data Protection Platform, introduces dynamic data masking and monitoring capabilities. With multiple data-protection methods on a single platform, organizations can align the level of data protection to the level of data sensitivity within a single policy.
What does Dynamic Data Masking (DDM) do?
Dynamic Data Masking is a Column-level Security feature that uses masking policies to selectively mask plain-text data in table and view columns at query time. It does not alter its original form. The sensitive data is still there; it has not been substituted with a non-sensitive token or equivalent. But it is masked from viewing by unauthorised users. It is simple to implement and allows for rapid protection of data where the level of sensitivity and risk is relatively low.
How it works together with data monitoring and tokenization?
Monitoring capabilities give customers baseline visibility into how data is being accessed and used across the organization. For a higher level of control over sensitive data, businesses can utilize Protegrity’s dynamic data masking, which enforces data-visibility rules at the point of user access to hide or “mask” sensitive data for unauthorised users – without changing the data at rest.
Envision, an organization that has a customer database that includes name, phone address, spending, and HK ID. With Protegrity v8.1, the organization can choose to mask the phone, monitor address and spending, and tokenise the name and HK ID. This allows less sensitive data such as address and spending to be available for analytics, without the need to de-tokenise before use, while the highly sensitive name and HKID data elements are replaced by tokens and therefore remain useless.
